Child Welfare and Educational Support

The BFAS Child Welfare Project for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Ethiopia includes support for orphanages sponsored by BFAS, K-12 education, and child sponsorship programs in the regions where our licensed partnering orphanages operate. BFAS partners with these licensed orphanages to place children with loving families in the United Sates.

BFAS realizes that adoption alone cannot address the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in Ethiopia. As a result, BFAS has established a Child Welfare Program for orphans and at risk children. Through this project, BFAS collaborates with selected orphanages to support at least five children in Ethiopia for every child BFAS matches with a U.S. citizen family.  The main objective of this project is to improve the status of and build a better future for 900 orphaned and vulnerable Children in the selected regions, through early childhood development services, sponsorship, institutional care and educational support programs by 2012.

Currently, BFAS is sponsoring 171 children through Bethzata Children’s Home Association, and Yengda Hitsanat Merja Mahber. Additional children will be sponsored through Foundation of Hope for Children. The project will also establish a best model early childhood development program and K-12 school in Addis Ababa.
